Arthur Beatrice are one of those bands that I have long wondered why they haven’t broken through into the charts – they have it all from a polished live show, to amazing names (Orlando Leopard anyone?), so what was missing? That would be the hype.
Midland and Carter (Cut) remain two of my favourite songs from the last couple of years, but they have managed to avoid that label push that gets their faces everywhere, the push that may sell records but it tends to make you to never want to listen to them again. Without that push, however, Arthur Beatrice have had a slow smouldering rise to grace, where word-of-mouth has spread about their sparse song-writing, house-influences, and sultry voices.
Carter EP is, then, a perfect stepping stone to help spread their noise a little further, giving new found fans something to buy, but most impartantly works as keeping us all very, very interested in an album.
