Megafortress is the latest project of New York’s Bill Gillim, of Tigercity. Releasing their debut LP, Believer, earlier this month, Gillim’s lulling voice slots in and out of minimal textures, of chattering saxophones, of the rare flute and double bass. On occasion, real distress is registered, as it is in the hesitation and about-turn at the centre of ‘Murderer’, yet there is still room for majesty and intensity even in the record’s understated effect, like the solemn climax to ‘Live in Grace’.
