London has one of the best music scenes in the world, and while when most people think of music festivals they think of getting swallowed in the Glastonbury mud, there is a wealth of options in the capital as well.
We’ve put this list together in collaboration with Ticketbis, which offers an after-market exchange where you can sell tickets they no longer want or buy tickets for sold-out events for which you missed the deadline – and we’ve all missed the boat on a tickets at some point.
Here the dates for the diary…
Field Day (6-7th June)
Since its inception in 2007, Field Day has been London’s music festival of record with a line-up that includes some well-known acts and plenty of names just breaking through. Every year the Victoria Park festival books acts ranging from weird folk to hard house, and spanning everything in between
Price: £38.50 – £54.50 (day) / £83 (weekend)
Line-up highlights: Caribou, Patti Smith, Chet Faker, Django Django, Haelos, Fryars, My Brightest Diamond, Shura, Savages
Bushstock (13th June)
Rather than have the festival in one of London’s parks, Bushstock takes advantage of four venues around Shepherd’s Bush in west London. The festival is organised by Communion Music, a community and record label founded by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons, Kevin Jones of Bear’s Den, and producer Ian Grimble, and you can expect a softer folkish vibe from the delightfully small and low key festival.
Price: £27.50 (day)
Lineup: To be announced
British Summer Time (18th June)
The British Summer Time events in Hyde Park are mostly sold on the basis of the headline act alone (Blur, Kylie, Taylor Swift), but the day headlined by The Strokes offers a line-up that will rival most festivals. In support of The Strokes, those attending will also get to see Beck, Future Islands, Temples, and Gengahr, which makes it a festival in our book.
Price: £70 (day)
Lineup: The Strokes, Beck, Future Islands, Temples, Gengahr
Lovebox (17-18th July)
Always a firm favourite with those looking for some of the world’s bets DJs and electronic artists, 2015 will be the second year that Lovebox will be spread over 2 days. The after-parties add nearly as much as the festival as well, so be prepared for a massive weekend in Victoria Park (even if we don;t know who’s playing yet).
Price: £55 (day) / £93.50 (weekend)
Lineup: To be announced
Citadel (19th July)
After some heavy partying at Lovebox on Friday and Saturday, Citadel is there on Sunday to save your soul. Brought to you by the same people behind Lovebox and Wilderness, Citadel promises a days of festivities that includes music from the likes of Ben Howard, Bombay Bicycle Club, and a whole stage curated by Communion Music, alongside cerebral talks, and an impressive array of street food.
Price: £55 (day)
Lineup: Ben Howard, Bombay Bicycle Club, and more to be announced
…And a special mention goes to The Great Escape, which may be in Brighton but is the UK’s answer to SXSW and is only a short train-ride away and offers three days of some of the best up-and-coming bands and artists around.
Rather than risk buying a ticket for a sold-out event from a tout outside, buying it from a fan-to-fan exchange like Ticketbis means that you can be sure you are buying a genuine ticket, as the seller is only paid after you have attended the event.
