We should be back to our regular programming here on the Walrus next week after what has been a tumultuous few months behind the scenes, and we’ll start that with getting back into the groove of a weekend playlist.
We have missed a few fantastic new bands and releases in that time, but now we’re back with some regular weekend playlist love to highlight the best releases of the last week or so that have been on heavy rotation at Walrus Towers.
This week’s playlist has been made with the support of Long & McQuade, which offers musical instruments and music lessons at locations across Canada. If you live to the north over the pond and are in the market for a new guitar, keyboard, or want to learn how to play, then check them out.
Onto the music…
We start things off with the rich and dramatic debut from Cloves, before easing our way into the pop delight of Oh Wonder.
Charlotte Cardin‘s next with her soulful and classic sound, along with the slowly building electronic pop of MAS YSA, which ends in almost euro-house.
We slow things down again with Harrison Brome and bliss out with Favela, which glides effortlessly into the smooth R&B of Teddy Au Top and Klyne.
Nova Heart builds on a cool-as-f*ck bassline, while Beach House bring the blissed-out indie shoe-gaze to the party.
Wolf Alice are perfect as always and flow into the upbeat indie of Mainland, Cavalry, and rock’n’roll of Shunkan and summer sounds of Candids.
Oceaan‘s remix of Frances is as beautiful and subtle as you would hope, while the Ambassadeurs‘ remix of SOAK brings the beat.
Superpoze then creates a menacing, cinematic soundscape before Australian pioneer Flume‘s remix of Collarbones builds into something timeless for late nights.
Gilligan Moss raises the tempo, and Kazy Lambist bring the groove, before
Gypsy & The Cat join forces with Partner Liaison for some pure sunglazed synth pop and Kisses fill the dancefloor.
