It feels slightly strange to describe a band I really like as pop punk after the dross that became synonymous with that label in the noughties, but it is difficult to describe Seattle-based Tacocat in any other way.
From the name itself, it’s apparent no-one is taking this too seriously, but with the riffs and thumping drums that define Tacocat’s upcoming LP, Lost Time, this is very much punk – clever, silly, thunderous pop punk the way it should be.
Emily Nokes (vocals, tambourine), Eric Randall (guitar), Lelah Maupin (drums), and Bree McKenna (bass) met at school and have been playing together for quite a few years already – but it is with this second album, due out on 1st April on Hardly Art Records, that they truly stamp their mark.
The whole record is filled with scuzzy pop fun, as you can hear in the first two singles – the jaunty I Hate The Weekend and the dark 80s punk sounds of Talk. And with a European tour kicking off in May, you can now experience the catchy riot of their live shows on British soil.
Tacocat – Lost Time is due for release on 1st April on Hardly Art Records
