We’re big fan of Carnivals (Facebook) here at The Blue Walrus, we mentioned back in May last year that the minimal blissful synths and upbeat sound of producer Stewart Green where a band to keep your eyes and ears on in 2011. We also mentioned that we where left eagerly waiting to hear more, well the wait is over as Carnivals are back with another fantastic EP, Humility.
Since the release of his first EP Mavi Kara last February, Stewart Green has kept himself transatlantically busy. He has ventured forth from behind the mixing desk in his hometown of Sheffield and trekked his way across the picturesque land andsea of India for 6 months before finally settling for the more permanent dwelling of the searing heat of Australia. This vast landscape of experience and exploration has clearing imprinted itself in the experimental soundcraft of his new record. It is as tranquil and cultivated as the idyllic paradise of the Indian Ocean and as vibrant and serene as the beaches ofAustralia. There is even a darker level of industrial force of his hometown up north within the mixed textures.
The new EP doesn’t get its official release till this week but the first two single have surfaced themselves onto Carnivals Soundcloud page for fans to hear. First single Departures is an epic force of sound division, it expels sonar fragments of delicate piano samples, resonating vocals and rhythmic guitar. The gearing bass and drum beat centres around its droning pulse and brings together the soothing glitchy layers.
Last Off The Lake is a tranquil swirl of colourful acceding beats that drop into this record like delicate raindrops. The thumping thud of percussions builds along side its sleek soundscape, binding it self round and spiralling off into the distance.
We may have had to patiently wait for this record to materialise but the wait has most definitely been worth it.
Humility is out on 6th August via Carnival’s Bandcamp page.
