Starting a band with siblings can tip the balance of the good ideas scales either way, for some it has proved to be a great disaster as personalities began to clash and sibling rivalry gets in the way, just look at what happened to The Kinks, The Beach Boys, The Jesus and Mary Chain and most notoriously Oasis. Most of the time however, it can work really really well. Bands like The Kings Of Leon, The Cribs, Orbital and The Bee Gees have shown that DNA don’t mean a thing and you can form a successful band with your nearest and dearest and make a great record at the same time.
The Family Rain (Facebook/Twitter) are another band to add to this long history of family orientated bands. Brothers Will, Ollie and Tim Walters have been making music since an early age but now all grown the boys have spent the last 10 months hard at work writing and recording new material in their parents basement in Bath for the debut of their band The Family Rain.
The trios first single Trust Me…I’m A Genius is a robust mix of snarly guitar hooks and Jack White esque throaty and grimace vocals to match. It has a confident swagger in its delivery and a fine coating of retro garage punk prowess to its tone. These guys could easily be mistaken for a British version of The Back Keys, their musical influence has all the formulaic check off points of the Key’s murky grunge mannerisms and raw passion and their musical influence is clearly rooted into the earthy garage rock and blue rock revival genre; a scene which the Keys are dominating at the moment and one this bad could seize.
Trust Me…I’m A Genius is released on the 19th November on bigger SPLASH where this band are certain to make some wave, they’ve certainly caught my attention. Check out the video that will accompany the single below.
