If the cold frost that has spread across over our fair isle is bringing you down or has snowed you in! Then fear not as Delaware duo Mean Lady (Twitter/Facebook) aka Sam Nobles and Katie Dill bring some much needed burst sunshine in the form of their tropical pop. Ok so it might be to ruddy freezing to imagine warmer climates but they are also provide the perfect soundtrack to watch snowflakes fall to. I first heard Mean Lady blissful melodies in May last year after stumbling across their Bandcamp and Facebook pages.
Their name could be considered somewhat misleading as they ever so kindly debuted their first EP Kid Friendly debuted on their Band camp page in 2010 free download. This EP was followed up in 2012 by a whole host of free EP’s, singles and covers to download, not very mean at all. Kid Friendly peaked favourably with bloggers and the band where soon signed to Fat Possum Records last November. Their first single with the label Bop Bop was released and is the perfect debut single that captures the warm idyllic essence of their sound.
Their sound is a carnival of noise that elevates and captives with every beat. Katie Dill’s soulful and sultry vocals blend and melt so perfectly with Sam’s upbeat playful melodies. Dainty little chimes of sound and happy clap beats that so serene and carefree that that melt away all troubles.
Each one of their song is a magical mix of experimental delicacies and infectious upbeat vibes that have made my early mooring train journeys to work that little more bearable. With a debut album with Fat Possum in the recording stages and soon to be released this year something tells me this cold chill wont last for long so add this band to your radar for 2013.
