There are few topics of interest that musicians haven’t covered in song, but love, loss and heartbreak seem to be the most popular choice of topic, a topic that singer songwriter Richard Smith (Facebook/Twitter) is comfortable and familiar with. Describing his music as “melodic dark tales of love and loss” Smith sets the mood locking into his sincere and melancholic side.
Heading down the Bon Iver route Ricahrd shut himself away in a dark bleak room in his native Sunderland for 6 months, following on from his warmly received 2012 debut two-tracker, “Autumn is here and I guess I’m still in love with you” Richard is fully wore into his emotions pouring his heart and soul in to writing his latest track “The Water”. Produced by Neil Bassett of Hyde & Beast fame this sombre and haunting track escalates between the dark and the light. Delicate twangs of guitar mould with Richard’s deep sunken vocals, echoing their rich tones against a steady percussion.
