We’ve got a little change of pace for you all today with the introspective and melancholic sounds of Riley Pearce‘s ‘If I Knew’.
‘If I Knew’ is a soft and understated track with little more than Pearce’s stirring voice backed slow percussion and muted horns, giving him the space to reflect on past mistakes and discover where he went wrong.
Chatting about how he found the inspiration for the song, Pearce said: “I wrote If I Knew about 30 minutes before leaving for a gig. I still didn’t have a second verse for it so it was finished in a porta-loo 15 minutes before I hit the stage. We recorded that song in Melbourne with Hayden Calnin in between two weekends of shows and it came together so naturally that I decided to record the whole EP with him.”
The Australian songsmith has been on quite the journey over the last couple of years from busking at farmers markets around Perth to writing the smash hit ‘Brave’ and selling out shows across the world – catch him at one of his last few European tour dates below.
Riley Pearce – If I Knew is out tomorrow (27 July) and will be followed by his sophomore EP, Eastbound, next week (3 August).
